The teacher in this video is on an LoTi level probably higher than a 4. The students are well versed in the terminology and functions of the technology. The students are able to give a self evaluation of their own reading and learning. The students appear to be engaged in the video and actively reading. Students are learning to actively engaged in critiquing their own reading.
In Ken Robinson video, he states that we all have an interest in education. I believe this is true. I believe that we do have an underlying hierarchy of education. From his context, he believes that this is not they way it should be. Students should be taught arts including dance. He is considering "schools kill creativity".
While I understand his point, I have some difficulty understand the practicality of what he is suggesting. I believe that his comments are idealistic and realistic. Can you life without the arts? It would be quite a dull and boring life. Can you live and function in society without reading? I do not think this is possible anymore. Farm and labor jobs are increasing in scarcity. Funds for education have consistently been cut for the past 4 years. What programs do we keep? What is more important?
There are some fundamental skills all people need. People need to learn how to read. It is quite difficult to use a computer for research if you cannot understand the text that is on the screen. You cannot tell a computer to find a video, website or anything else on the computer if you cannot type it in the computer. Learning how to think in different and new ways is also a skill that all people need to acquire. Problem solving is taught through the math and science content.
